Let me be clear- those SCA fighters who live within the geographical area known as the Middle Kingdom, who bear arms against the Midrealm army for any reason whatsoever gain dishonor through this action, based upon period parameters.
In the period we study it was the dream of every man-at-arms to be rich enough that he could fight without requiring payment from anyone. This situation would gain him admiration and love, and the envy of others who shared the desire for the perfect situation in the life of arms. To be that rich and choose to live a dangerous life anyway- that was the perfect situation.
Any SCA fighter can live that dream. THAT is what "the Dream" means.
This is what I mean by the middle ages as they should have been. Not some fantasy of another age, but the dream of the middle ages themselves.

Dropped the Daughter off so that she could attend the Party at Chen and Elayne's. that seems to have gone well.
the rest of us a had nice time at Missy and Dahrien's.
I got better aquanted with Dahrien's mother, Who I mostly see at funerals, So this was a welcome chance to talk with her under better circumstanses .
Stayed up 'til just before 4am. I went to bed at 4am, I feel asleep listening to the sound of Dahrien and Mirum talking about Calontery stuff.
Had that nice schmooze kinda of breakfast that happens with a bunch of crashers.
Got the daughter.
Got home, got supper. went to bed early.
Had to go to 8am mass as I was listed to Read.
Crawled back into bed for awhile.
Gave into cravings and made scones, (whole wheat and oatmeal so they nominally healthy) used the berries that the kids picked from the garden to have scones and berries and honey for Brunch.
Have spent the rest of the day cutting out fabric and doing wash.
Will fix spelling tommorrow.

We are gone two days. We left the two cats at home. All the doors and windows, at least screens were closed. When we got home today, we could not find either cat. About an hour ago, Seis showed up outside the door. This is not good. We can not find Sushi anywhere. She ate all her food and once again peed in the wrong place, so I know she was here over the weekend. No one was supposed to be by. I am quite concerned for her.

Today started out with a wonderful breakfast prepared by
layni_girl with help from
sgtgwn, as I slept in until about 10. Then some more visiting with that group. Talked with
chentzu about his chances of coming to Pennsic. Said good byes and headed to
cliffjumper2's house.
The plan was for
cliffjumper2 and
sgtgwn to head out to see the horses. But there was still work being done on the house when we arrived. So I said Sean and I would go ahead and head to the zoo. I then went next door and invited
draconisregena along. She said sure and came with to Miller Park Zoo. That was fun, but the feeding of the bears, while at the same time as the St Louis Zoo, is nothing like it. They just pour the food out for the bears. They do not toss it to them or anything fun. But Sean called
ldybz3 anyway.
We were going to go to the park to swim and do some rapier, but Sean was tired of the heat, so we headed back to do some rapier at
draconisregena's place instead. When we got there we found that the others had not left yet. There were plumbing issues and those were still being worked on by
cliffjumper2's Dad. So we geared up and fought some rapier.
sgtgwn came by after about 30 minutes and said that the plumbing project was being put on hold and heading for dinner would commence soon. So we wrapped up our fighting with a few more bouts. It was good to fight her, always fun because she is always smiling when she fights me. She was also a sweetie for taking care of Camile for the night.
Then we went to
cliffjumper2's parents camper. Which is more like a motel room on wheels. We were joined by
gunvor and had dinner and good conversations until after midnight. Then we came back and I could not find the airpump. So after some improv, people got to bed and now it is time for me to do the same.
Two very nice days for the weekend. It has been a great weekend with time filled with friends.
EDIT: Error fixed now thanks to
sgtgwn

Had a great time at
chentzu and
layni_girl's party. Still there at the moment. We had some really good fighting. Not the largest turnout, but good stuff.
druminmychest was here for the first time.
ourflagiswhite and I had some good exchanges.
little_deer was back in armor, even though we did not get to fight, I was glad to see her back. And it was nice to meet Spanky.
We had so much food. I am not sure how we keep coming up with more food than we can all eat in this group.
Then lots of great schmoozing, geeking, and staying up until 4am with
talkisdead. Very good stuff.
Now it is off to the next visit!

I have been to every Pennsic since 13. Now that is not as long as some, but it is 24 in a row. I have never had a bad time. Some have been better than others. Pennsic is special, I can not imagine not going. It would not feel right to me. I have many great memories of Pennsic. It has not mattered if we lost the war. I still have great tales of fun and glory. Winning is fun to. But not winning the war. That is OK, but I can not even tell you which wars that we have won save two. Eislan's and Kenna's wars. And I only remember we won those for other reasons. I remember winning battles. The Bridge at 13. The Champions Tourney at 23. The Field Battle at 25. The Woods Battle at 34. The Maze Battle whenever that was. All of those hold personal memories. Winning is exciting at the time, but that fades. It is the glories of the battles that stay with me. Hard fought battles with amazing personal moments.
The song Three to One really tells the story of how I feel about winning at Pennsic better than I could ever could. With permission from

All I have to add is that while I want to win every battle at every Pennsic, and I have been to all of them since 13 that is 24 in a row, I still think we should fight for the joy of combat and that all SCA wars should have nearly even sides.

With the outside world being such a big and scary place, everyone needs a source of comfort and security. For Linus this is his blanket - even though Lucy and his grandmother try and break him of the habit. He has an unparalleled knowledge of the Bible and has managed Charlie Brown's baseball team on occasion. When Halloween comes around, make sure your pumpkin patch is sincere.

Went to Illiton fighter practice tonight with two other Lochmorrow fighters. We got a late start as someone else was late for a change. But it was a great practice.
chentzu brought my armor and other stuff that he had got for me from Jubilee. We did do some fighting, but not that much considering how long it had been.
alzbeta_m and
birchduck and I did spear practice with the two of them working against me. This was a very fun way to practice and yet almost like a drill for all of us.
starwolf_129 and I did two handed swords.
druminmychest and I had several good passes and I tried to impart some wisdom on him, but he knows all of this stuff now. He just has to put the pieces together. Michael of Ivy continues to be a real danger. I only fought armored due to our being late. But about 20 of us invaded Steak and Shake after we were done with practice.
A very fun night.

I'm still not 100%, but I'm probably 90%. I still need to take an Excedrine Migrane at 8:30 in the morning, but nothing more until night-time.
On the work front, I'm in the lab (yeah!) and dealing with looking at tiny rocks all day. Yesterday and today I had to take time out to do something mindless because my eyes were having a hard time focusing. I'd just as soon stay indoors for as long as possible.
I bought a riding helmet yesterday. It's ugly, but I will wear it during practice on Gracie. I've also placed an order for a riding helment that is built into a "cowboy" hat. It looks just like a Civil War slouch hat, all I have to do is put the braid and brass on it. Unfortunately, everyone and their brother wants a "cowboy" style riding helmet, so it is back ordered until the middle of August. I personally talked to the ladies at the mail order store, and I should have it two days after it ships. That should still do me for the last 5 events of the season.
Right now, I'm sitting at home. Bo is at the Illiton practice and Sean is still at his friend's house. Sushi is still behind the couch, but I'm petting her and she is happy.

Studies Lead You to Water, But How Much to Drink?
This is a nice review of the literature on drinking water.
interesting tidbit
"Her studies have found that substituting water for sweetened beverages helped female dieters cut overall calories (whereas diet drinks seem to stimulate more eating) and that women on four popular diets who drank at least one liter (34 ounces) of water a day lost more weight than those who didn't, regardless of their diet."
I will say that for myself, I just don't get all hyped up about water the way the diet programs do. I drink some. I drink more tea and coffee. I rarely drink soda of any type.
